Dimapur, October 30 : Owners of commercial vehicles in Mokokchung have kept aside for a while their indefinite ‘chakka bandh’ which was scheduled to be imposed from November 1 on national highway-702D. The decision comes following a reported request from the district authorities for ‘extension of the deadline’ to address the issue.
The leaders of the MTDOA, the Pick Up Truck Owners’ Union of Mokokchung, the ANTA of Mokokchung, and the Private Bus Owners’ Association of Mokokchung issued a joint statement on Sunday informing about the event.
The protest was against the alleged negligence of the authorities in not repairing the reportedly deplorable condition of said highway notwithstanding frequent appeals. The note stated that the stir was being “reluctantly put in abeyance” as requested by the Mokokchung district administration.
“That, however, does not mean that the bandh is being called off,” the note pointed out.
During a meeting that held on October 28, the district administration requested “an extension of the deadline be given till 20th of November 2016,” the press release informed.
The organizations have warned of “lightning bandh any day without any pre-information” if the authorities fail to commence repair works by the first week of November “with proper machineries and road repairing raw materials.”
