Various organizations condemn the rape incident
Dimapur, June 14 : Eastern Nagaland Women Organization, Mokokchung (ENWOM) has demanded to book the alleged rapist of a minor girl under IPC and award severe punishment to the culprit as per the law.
In a memorandum submitted to the DC Mokokchung, the ENWO Mokokchung also demanded not to grant bail to the accused and urged the administration to ensure safety of the women folk.
The voice of concern of the ENWOM came following an alleged rape of a minor girl by one Alemchiba, a grand father figure to the victim, last week.
DC Sushil Kumar Patel assured ENWOM leaders to take severe action against the accused as per the law of the land after a fair trial, who is now in the judicial custody. He also assured all help to the victim and the relative.
Meanwhile, police had resorted to lathicharge and blank firing to disperse mob who have gathered near the police station-1 demanding the accused to be shown to them. With this preventive action the situation returned to normal as the mob dispersed.
Later in the evening, DC called a meeting with the apex organization leaders to discuss the situation arising out of the rape incident. It was agreed that all the concerned leaders would cooperate with the district administration to deliver justice to the victim and punishment to the culprit as per the law.
The Ao Senden in a press communiqué issued by its president Imolemba Jamir and general secretary S. Panger Ao expressed utmost regret and solidarity to the victim.
“The act of such shameless people is condemnable and must be condemned by one and all.” Ao Senden appreciated the victims’ family and Eastern Nagaland Women Organization Mokokchung (ENWOM) for showing utmost restraint despite its intolerable and inhuman act.
It also appreciated the district administration for timely intervention and proceeding of necessary action in containing the situation in control.
In a separate release, Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem (MTLT) said, any citizen within Mokokchung committing such atrocious deeds presents the town very poorly.
“This is totally uncalled for. The accused must be served justice accordingly. The district administration must befittingly render justice without any delay.” The MTLT expressed solidarity with the Eastern Naga Women Organization Mokokchung (ENWOM), Eastern Naga People Union Mokokchung (ENPUM), Eastern Naga Students Union Mokokchung (ENSUM), Eastern Nagaland College Students’ Union (ENCSU), Watsu Mungdang and all who are united in purpose to root out evil from society.
