DIMAPUR — The Modern Institute of Teacher Education (MITE), Kohima, conducted an outreach activity on the theme ‘Volunteering for the old age people’ at the Good Samaritan Senior Citizens Home, Meriema, Kohima, on Saturday.
Under the guidance of Dr. Rajesh Babu Pammi, teacher in charge of extension-cum-outreach activities, a group of 95 student teachers along with MITE principal Dr. Kate Dandesh Kumar, vice principal Dr. HL Gangte and faculty members, actively participated in the programme, an update stated.
The student teachers engaged in various activities aimed at enhancing the well-being of the senior citizens residing at the home.
They showcased their talents by singing melodious songs, bringing joy and cheer to the elderly residents. They also took the opportunity to raise awareness about the challenges faced by the elderly population and discussed potential solutions.
Through interactive sessions with each individual, the students provided assistance in cleaning and other daily tasks, demonstrating their compassion and care, it stated.

To contribute to the physical well-being of the senior citizens, the student teachers distributed essential food materials, ensuring their basic needs were met. The outreach activity served as a valuable platform for MITE students to connect with the community and make a positive impact on the lives of the elderly.
“The outreach activity was a resounding success, fostering a sense of connection between the young and the elderly. It also highlighted the importance of community engagement and service learning for the development of future educators,” it added.
