Missing missionary found murdered

Mokokchung, Sept 13 : One Tekachang, 77, of Mangmetong village who was kidnapped from Longphayimsen paddy field area on September 11 by unidentified persons was found murdered the next day near Tzurang River, a few kilometers away from the victim's residence. Police and the villagers of Longphayimsen who were engaged in the search recovered the dead body on September 12. According to Longtho PS officer-in-charge, Lima, the victim was abducted from his residence by three armed men at around 10 p.m. on the night of September 11 and police swung into action as soon as a missing case report was filed at the police station. Police were assisted by Longphayimsen villagers for manhunt. He also disclosed that the victim bore bruises all over his body and was strangulated. According to a reliable source, the victim was known as a missionary by the non-locals residing in the paddy field area (pani keti) for spreading the gospel. It was also learnt that the victim's family shifted only recently to that area from Lakhuni model village after his house was destroyed in a fire incident. Mokokchung Additional SP Yanren Ngullie said there has been no arrest in connection to this case but competent police officers are actively involved in the investigation while taking into account all angles, and assured that the culprits will be booked at the earliest.
