In a suspected case of election-related violence, unidentified miscreants ransacked a house and injured two persons in Mokokchung town late Monday night.

Police sources informed Eastern Mirror that about 20 to 30 miscreants ransacked a house at Salangtem ward at around 10:30-11 pm, injuring two persons.

JD(U) candidate from 28 Koridang AC, Chalukumba, was reported to have been camping at the house after reaching Mokokchung from Kohima to file his nomination papers on Wednesday.

The candidate was however not at home at the time of the incident.

Sources stated that police were immediately deployed to the spot after information was received.

The police further informed that the identity of the miscreants could not be established till the time of filing this report. However, a case has been registered at Police Station I and investigation is ongoing.

The two injured persons were immediately shifted to District Hospital Mokokchung last night for treatment, a source said.
