Kohima, Feb. 14: Four miscreants were picked up by Angami Youth Organisation (AYO) volunteers Tuesday afternoon after they allegedly harassed three students who were returning from their institute and snatched away their mobile handsets.

The three students were reportedly returning from their college at around 11 am behind Local Ground area when they were accosted by the miscreants who, on the pretext of being bandh volunteers, asked the students why they were out when there was a bandh in the town. The students, all female, were said to have explained that they had to go to their college. After verbally harassing the students, the miscreants reportedly snatched their smartphones and let them go.
Apparently shaken but furious, the students went and complained to AYO volunteers on duty at TCP Gate area and the latter immediately dispatched a search team to locate the miscreants.

The culprits were apprehended in a booze joint at Naga Bazaar after three hours. They were identified as Avezo Tetseo (son of Vekhruhu), Vepa Rhakho (son of Vekuto), Ata Venuh (son of Chekhutso) and Yalie (son of late Balie).

It was learnt that they had already sold one of the mobile handsets for Rs.1000 and bought drinks with that money.

The accused were taken to the office of the Angami Students’ Union (ASU) since the victims were students, and ASU officials handed them over to Kohima police.
