Minor girl raped by priest in Karbi Anglong

Diphu, July 24 (EMN): In a shocking incident, a 31-year-old priest allegedly raped a 15-year-old girl in Diphu, Karbi Anglong on the night of July 22.

The priest has been identified as Welson Tisso (31) of Matipung under Diphu Police Station, Karbi Anglong. He had been serving as general secretary of Karbi Kurusar Chingrum Amei (KKCA), a social group of Karbi traditional priests. 

The matter came to light, when the victim’s parents approached a women’s organisation in the morning. Later on, members of the organisation along with members of Karbi Students Association visited the priest’s residence at Matipung to enquire about it.

In this regard, the Karbi Anglong Women’s Justice Forum’s president Beulet Beypi said, “The victim’s locality had no mobile network for attending online classes. Since, the father worked with the accused in KKCA, he let his daughter attend online classes at the priest’s house. However, on the night of July 22, Tisso raped the girl at his residence. He also threatened the victim not to tell others about the matter, if not she would be bewitched by him”.

United Karbi Anglong women Association (UKAWA) president, Malin Ingtipi said, “We want the culprit to be booked according to the law of the land and this case should be brought in first track courts, since many cases of such matter have been filed no justice has been serve to the culprits”. A case has been lodged at Diphu police station in this regard.
