WOKHA — In a shocking case of child abuse, a 10-year-old boy was allegedly assaulted physically by his neighbour, a resident of Sanis town in Wokha district, on April 12.

According to reports, the accused tortured the minor, accusing him of stealing eggs from her house.

She allegedly inserted a blunt object into the child’s mouth. The boy also sustained visible injuries on his legs, hands, back and head, including bleeding, as evidenced by a widely circulated video on social media.

The boy is said to be traumatised and is unable to speak as a result of the insertion of a blunt object.

On contacting the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) in Wokha, officials informed Eastern Mirror that they have brought the boy to a child care home in Wokha town and that it is their duty to address the issue and rescue the child.

Meanwhile, the victim’s father said that he wouldn’t file a complaint against the accused but forgive her. He, however, said that it is up to the law enforcement agency to take any legal action.

It may be mentioned that a case of child abuse was reported from Wokha in March involving a 9-year-old minor who had been residing with a couple as a helper and was subjected to physical assault by the wife, resulting in severe injuries including burnt marks and ‘black and blue’ bruises in various parts of her body.

In that case, the victim’s father lodged a First Information Report (FIR) on March 20, resulting in the accused being booked under sections 323, 324, 354 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act.
