Ministry of Agriculture targets to form 10,000 FPOs

Dimapur, Feb. 21 (EMN): In order to disseminate information and discuss issues and challenges on implementation of central sector scheme for formation of Farmers Producers Organisation (FPO) in the northeast region, a physical and virtual review meeting was held at Central Institute of Horticulture (CIH), Medziphema, on February 17 under the chairmanship of Dr. Abhilaksh Likhi, additional secretary of Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, government of India.

An update from CIH stated that a review on the progress for formation of FPOs by the implementing agencies like Neramac, Nabard, NCDC and Sfac in the northeast region was done during the meeting. It stated that the chairman apprised all to continue working in close coordination in spite of the geography and topography differences in order to achieve the target of forming 10,000 new FPOs.

During the meeting, the Likhi launched the Noklak Honey produced by Agro-Revolution Society, Noklak, and promoted by CIH, Medziphema.

As a part of the meeting, the additional secretary along with other dignitaries visited Farmer Producer Company (FPC) Molsang formed by the farmers of Molvom and Bungsang villages and interacted with the members on their activities. He encouraged and apprised the members to strengthen the FPC through various capacity building and training programmes provided through Bird in Lucknow and Linac Gurugram Institutes under the scheme.

He also visited the off-farm demonstration of CIH on cultivation of Onion and vegetable kitchen garden at Punglwa B village maintained by the women SHG  under the technical guidance of CIH. Later, he visited the weekly Haat at Punglwa village and interacted with the buyers and sellers of vegetables and spices.

The meeting was participated by mission directors of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura, additional commissioner of Horticulture Dr. NK Patle, director in-charge of CIH, officials from NCCT in Imphal, Nafed in Guwahati, Noklak superintendent of police, and other stakeholders.
