Mining minister visits coal bearing areas

Dimapur, March 13 (EMN): To assess coal production and devise mechanism to enhance revenue generation from coal sector, minister of Geology and Mining, V Kashiho Sangtam, accompanied by the commissioner and secretary K Libanthung Lotha and senior officers of the department visited to all the coal bearing districts across the state on March 11 and the 12th.

An update from K Libanthung Lotha and the joint director of Geology and Mining department Tesinlo Semy stated that the department could garnered revenue from INR 70 lakh to INR 211 lakh, an increase of 201%, during the current fiscal year.

It stated that the minister and his team had meetings with all stakeholders, village councils, landowners, coal operators, transporters etc. It added that after patiently hearing their grievances, the minister had assured all possible help from the government. He also requested all the stakeholders to extend their cooperation to the department officials performing their duties and responsibilities at the district levels.

The team also inspected some designated mineral gates and proposed sites for setting up a coal depot.
