Mokokchung, Sep. 23 (EMN): MH-10 Kohima beat their arch rival Changtongya Volleyball Association (CVA) in an intense final match to lift the 15th edition of the Imchaba Master Memorial Nagaland Open Volleyball Trophy 2022 at multi-purpose sports complex, Mokokchung.
The defending champions CVA had an early setback in the first set with a point disadvantage but managed to restore parity (22-22). However, MH-10 won the set (25-22).
In the second set, MH-10 started to take control after time out at 19-18. CVA kept fighting till the end but went down (22-25).
CVA came back strong in the third set and edged past NH-10 (25-23).
In the fourth set, MH-10 took total control of the game quickly building a 12-21 lead and ended with (25-16).
This year’s champion pocketed INR 80,000 alongwith trophy and certificates while first runner-up received INR 50,000 and certificates. The second and third runner-ups went to Vision Volleyball Club, Tuensang (INR 30,000) and Tuensang District Volleyball Association (INR 20,000), respectively.
Player of the tournament was awarded to Imliakum of CVA, best setter to Limatenzuk of Yimyu and best spiker title went to Imkongtenzuk of MH-10, Kohima. The trophy was played after a hiatus of two years due to the COVID pandemic.
Earlier, minister, PWD (Housing & Mechanical), Tongpang Ozukum, graced the closing ceremony as the chief patron. The minister in his address said that volleyball is not a very popular sport in India unlike cricket, football and kabaddi but with the introduction of Khelo India by the Indian government, emphasis has been given to all sports.
Former minister I Imkong, son of Late Imchaba in whose memorial the trophy is being organised was also present at the closing ceremony.
