St. Joseph Palliative Care Trust is a project of the Catholic Diocese of Kohima in conjunction with the Medical Sisters of St. Joseph, an update stated.

The centre presently has 10 patients with various ailments who are entirely cared for by the sisters and a few caretakers.

According to the update, Sister Divya, who is in charge of the centre, briefed the students of MGM College on the fundamentals of palliative care including its operation and stages. She also stated that the centre is a charitable organisation and that there are no criteria for receiving services.

The main objective of the trust is to provide care, support, help patients and their family members to manage symptoms of illness and render psycho-social and spiritual support.

The students were asked to spread awareness about palliative care, volunteer in such institutes and be a beam of light in a world filled with people with diverse emotional and spiritual needs.

It added that the students of MGM College learned about terminal patients and how they are taken care of.
