DIMAPUR — MGM College and St. Joseph University organised academic and cultural programmes.
MGM College in Dimapur celebrated its Literary-cum-Cultural Day on the theme “Echoes of the past, tales of the present” on Monday at the college auditorium, stated an update.
The programme was attended by Alobo Naga, singer, songwriter, and proprietor of Musik-A Academy, as the guest of honour. The programme was hosted by Anohika.
In his welcome address, Dr. R K Behera, principal, highlighted the relevance of literature and culture in shaping identity, values, and critical thinking among students.
In his keynote address, Alobo spoke on the need to remain rooted in traditions amid modern influences and urged students to embrace their tribal identity with pride. He stated that traditional elements can be blended with contemporary art forms to showcase cultural uniqueness on broader platforms.

Following the inaugural session, literary competitions including debate, slam poetry, art, and essay writing were conducted. The cultural segment featured folk fusion songs, traditional dances, cultural fire-making, winnowing demonstrations, traditional attire displays, and a talent show.
Separately, the Institution’s Innovation Council, in collaboration with the Department of Botany, St. Joseph University in Chümoukedima, organised an expert lecture on “IPR basics for innovators and entrepreneurs in Ayurveda” on February 5 at the university seminar hall.
The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Dipsundar Sahu, MD, PhD, research officer (Ay.) and in charge of the Regional Ayurveda Research Centre, Dimapur, under the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences, Ministry of AYUSH.
In his lecture, Dr. Sahu outlined Ayurveda as the science of life, its clinical specialities, and its holistic approach to health. He also explained the regulatory framework governing Ayurvedic drugs, medicinal plants, and herbal products, and discussed business opportunities in the AYUSH sector.
The lecture covered research initiatives in Ayurveda, including clinical research, pharmacological studies, medicinal plant research, and drug development. Dr. Sahu highlighted the role of Intellectual Property Rights in protecting innovations and research outcomes and encouraged interdisciplinary careers.
