KOHIMA — Mevi Enterprise, a shed for local farmers to sell fresh fruits, vegetables and agricultural tools, was inaugurated at T Model village in Kohima on Friday.
Neibodzelie Solo, an unopposed elected candidate to the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) from Ward 11, who inaugurated the shed, described the enterprise as a beginning of new era to support the agricultural community. Solo commended the proprietors of Mevi Enterprise for their vision and initiative, noting that in an age where many are moving away from agriculture, it was truly inspiring to see individuals stepping forward to bridge the gap between farmers and the market.
He added that the enterprise represented more than just a retail outlet saying, “it embodies the collective commitment to the farming community starting with the farmers of Jotsoma.”
Solo said the store would serve as a crucial market linkage, addressing one of the most significant challenges farmers face– finding reliable outlets for their produce.
“What makes this venture noteworthy is its alignment with the Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North East Region (MOVCDNER) programme, an initiative from the Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India,” he said.
The programme, implemented by the department of Agriculture through The Green Caravan, promotes organic farming. It offers farmers training, tools, assistance in establishing companies and support for organic certification.
He added that the enterprise's commitment to work with farmers under the programme was a step towards a more sustainable and prosperous agricultural future.
Solo expressed admiration on the self-funded initiative, noting that such commitment to community development was rare and should be celebrated. He expressed hope that the enterprise would inspire others to undertake similar ventures, thereby create a network of support for farmers across Nagaland.
He emphasised that they are sowing seeds of change, opening doors of opportunity for farmers and paving the way for a stronger production economy in agriculture, adding that this was a step towards ensuring that farming remains a viable and attractive profession for generations to come.
Meanwhile, the enterprise has welcomed local farmers to sell their products under the guidance of two proprietors namely Azono Senotsu and Khreilesieno Nakhro.
