Dimapur, Aug. 8 (EMN): Metümnyo, the premier festival of the Yimkhiung Nagas, was celebrated with pomp and gaiety in Kohima and Shamator on Monday.
In Kohima, the Yimkhiung Union Kohima celebrated Metümnyo” at the official residence of advisor for IPR & Village Guards, Government of Nagaland, S Keoshu Yimkhiung, advisor for Prisons, Printing & Stationery, with H Haiying, as the special guest, stated a DIPR report.
The special guest in his address urged the Yimkhiung community to be good decision-makers in every sphere of life to enjoy the fruits of hard work, and also be thankful. He further appealed to the Yimkhiung community to make more positive contributions to Naga Society and fulfill their duty as indigenous citizens of the country.
Keoshu, while acknowledging the gathering, explained that Metümnyo has a comprehensive meaning and interpretation which goes beyond the “soul-wrapping” feast. He encouraged the festive gathering to preserve their culture and tradition and at the same time educate and spread awareness to the younger generation to keep their legacy alive.
The formal function was followed by a display of indigenous games including top spinning, pole climbing, meat biting and tug-of-war.
At Shamator district headquarter, Metümnyo festival was celebrated with deputy commissioner Shamator, Thsuvisie Phoji, as special guest and Yanba Showuba as host at Shamator local ground on Monday.
A DIPR report informed that the festival was organized by Thüneo (festival) committee Shamator Town. Besides the DC Shamator, the event was also graced by superintendent of police, Shamator, Amit Kumar, and a host of officials. President YTC, S Throngso, invoked the Almighty’s blessings and wished every Yimkhiung people a happy, prosperous and healthy Metümnyo festival.
