Dimapur, May 3 (EMN): It is no secret that Tech giant Meta wants to be on the forefront of metaverse entertainment, if at all the technology gains mass adoption.

In accordance to its metaverse plans, the American tech company formerly known as Facebook, plans to release at least four new VR headsets by 2024, according to a report by The Informer.

“Meta is planning to release Project Cambria, a high-end VR and mixed-reality headset it is billing as a device for the future of work, around September, according to a person familiar with the matter,” the report said on Monday.

The report indicates that Meta is working on two headsets focused on work and productivity (Project Cambria and Funston), while the other two are new versions of the Quest headset (Project Stinson and Cardiff) intended for VR gaming.

The Cambria VR headset will reportedly have a high-resolution screen so that users can easily read the texts. It will also enable users to effortlessly write and type emails within the VR environment. It will feature outward-facing cameras capable of full-color passthrough, so users can see their surroundings in real time and also have built-in sensors that track users’ eye movements and facial expressions.

Project Cambria is touted to cost around $799, well above the $299/$399 price for Quest VR headsets. The device is expected to launch this year in September.

Mark Zuckerberg is betting big on the mass adoption of metaverse. He is already spending billions a year on building the infrastructure needed for the upcoming metaverse.

“We plan to launch a web version of Horizon later this year that will make it easy for people to step into metaverse experiences from a lot more platforms, even without needing a headset,” he emphasised during the company’s recent earnings call.
