Meri Maati Mera Desh campaign launched across Nagaland

DIMAPUR — The Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) organised the culmination event of the 75th year of Indian Independence ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ (AKAM) and the launch of the Mera Maati Mera Desh campaign, at Duncan Basti near Shri Ramakhrishna Society, on Monday.

During the programme, all the wards under the DMC jurisdiction were asked to submit soil from their respective wards; 17 wards out of the total 23 wards submitted the same.

Administrator of DMC Manpai Phom said that they will be submitting the collected soil samples to the district level, then to the state level and further these samples will be taken to Delhi.

The function was also attended by Deputy Commissioner Sachin Jaiswal, Commissioner of Police Kevitutho Sophie and others.

A memorial plaque was also unveiled jointly by the Deputy Commissioner, Commissioner of Police Dimapur and DMC administrator, followed by planting of tree saplings to mark the occasion.

Longleng Deputy Commissioner of Longleng, Dharam Raj, launched the Meri Maati Mera Desh campaign at Longleng Town Council office on Monday. The DC highlighted the purpose of the campaign which, he said, is to honour the brave martyrs of the nation who sacrificed their lives for the country.

Administration of Panch Pran pledge, selfie and planting of three saplings at LTC office compound was organised during the event. Students of Christian High School, Longleng, presented the national anthem. Earlier, Raj dedicated the shilaphalakam (monolith) commemorating the event, a DIPR report stated.

Medziphema — The Mera Maati Mera Desh campaign in Medziphema sub-division was launched on August 12, which was marked by plantation drives in various villages and locations.

The Medziphema sub-division administration also organised an event at the City Centre on Monday, where SDO  Selemla Sangtam inaugurated the memorial plaque and paid tributes to the brave soldiers who laid down their lives for the country. She also appreciated the police personnel who have contributed their service to the nation as well as the state.

Jalukie Town Council — Jalukie Town Council organised the launching programme of the campaign at Jalukie Town Council Hall on August 11.  The ADC and Administrator Jalukie Town Council, TL Kiusumong Tikhir in his speech said the purpose of the campaign is to honour the freedom fighters who have sacrificed their lives to protect the freedom and pride of the Motherland.

He also highlighted the various activities and programmes to be carried out during the period of the campaign.

Wokha Town Council — As part of the campaign, Wokha Town Council (WTC) conducted various activities at Tsumang Lake, Wokha town, on Monday. The ADC and administrator WTC, K Furhesie Nyuwi, who chaired the programme, apprised the gathering of the objective of the campaign.

Don Bosco College Kohima —  The NSS Unit 1 of Don Bosco College, Kohima, organised an orientation cum cleanliness and plantation drive as part of the ‘Meri Maati Mera Desh’ campaign, in which 78 students participated.

In an update, the college stated that despite the rainy weather, students engaged in the activities on the college campus with remarkable enthusiasm. Also, saplings were distributed to the students, along with a promise to nurture and care for the plants as they matured.

GMS Salangtem — Government Middle School, Salangtem, Mokokchung, organised a programme on August 12 in which the faculty and students made a solemn pledge reiterating their commitment to the country and its principles.

On the occasion, the valour of freedom fighters and soldiers was highlighted, reinvigorating pride and nationalism. Candles were lit, and a moment of silence was observed in their honour. A selfie with ‘mitti’ was also taken, an update stated.

Meanwhile, the campaign was also launched at Aoyim village in Chumoukedima, Pfutsero town and Pfutseromi village in Phek district, Mokokchung village and Mangkolemba in Mokokchung district and Nsunyu village in Tseminyu district.
