Kohima, May 29 (EMN): Making a holistic approach of brains and physical fitness for students, Oriental College Kohima organised the 2nd Men’s Open Basketball Trophy which commenced on May 29 at the college premises at Seikhazou, D Khel Kohima village.

Altogether 10 teams are competing in the three-day event which carries a cash award of INR 30,000 with trophy and citation for the champion and INR 15,000 with trophy and citation for the runners-up team.

On the first day, Stallion beat Imperium 63-38; Amplified beat Taurus 48-42; Netters beat ‘A’ Teams 57-32; Orca beat Oriental College 67-42

Academician and politician Dr Kekhrie Yhome attended the occasion as special guest. He encouraged the youngsters to take up sports professionally as it has become very important for all aspects of life in the present day world. He encouraged them to be disciplined and dedicated in order to achieve greater heights.

He also lauded the Oriental College authorities for making a humble beginning in providing platform for the young sports talent of the state besides the educational knowledge. He expressed hope that through such stages the Naga youths would be able to make their way to the state and national level competitions.

Meanwhile, college authorities informed that they would endeavour to make the tournament an annual open event of the college.
