Dimapur, Nov. 28 (EMN): As part of 16-day of activism against gender-based violence, the Longleng district administration along with Mahila Shakti Kendra (MSK) and One Stop Centre conducted an awareness and sensitisation programme for men folk at Bhumnyu Baptist Church on November 28 on the theme “Orange the world: Fund, respond, prevent, collect.”

In her introductory note, OSC counsellor Nyangyungsangla spoke on the significance of 16-day activism observed all over the world, while a panel lawyer Monyei Phom gave brief explanation on the woman’s legal rights. She also encouraged the gathering to always approach the legal office for further information.

Trongdiba Sangtam, SDO (C), Longleng, challenged the men folk to bring change in a small way by preparing simple dinner when their wife or daughter come home from work place.

Speaking on the topic, PBCA executive director Tialemba Phom pointed out the increasing number of violence against women in the country. He said, “Discrimination starts from our family, where we differentiate between boy and girl child. Also in our society, women are blamed and criticised for every negativity.”

He encouraged the gathering to fight for women rights and to always support girl child education. He added that to fight for women rights is not to deceive men but co-exist.
