Meluri public announces boycott; warns of excommunication
Dimapur, Jan. 4: Even as the Pochury Hoho has announced that it was in favour of reservation for women in urban local bodies, the Meluri Area Public Organization has declared boycott of Meluri Town Council election 2017.
A press release from the organization informed that this was decided during a joint meeting of the Meluri Area Public Organisation, Meluri Village Council, Khumiasü Village Council, Müluo Shefüri Kügharü and Ward Chairmen held on Wednesday at Meluri town. “In the larger interest of safeguarding the special provision under Article 371 (A) of the constitution, it is found that the Municipal/Town Council Rules will adversely affect our Naga customs and traditions.
“Therefore this directive is served to all the intending candidates to strictly adhere by the decision and sternly warned to abstain from filing nominations. Anyone failing to comply by the consensus decision shall be treated as a direct challenge to our stand to which he/she shall be excommunicated from Meluri jurisdiction for violation,” the press release informed.
It has ‘empowered the Müluo Shefüri Kügharü (MSK) ‘to monitor the directive.’
