Former Meghalaya Governor Ranjit Shekhar Mooshahary and former Jharkhand minister Chandrasekhar Dubey have joined Trinamool Congress, according to party national general secretary Mukul Roy.
Roy told reporters today that apart from the two, Odhisa Congress leader Arya Kumar Gyanendra has also joined the party along with supporters and many others from different parts of the country were in talks with the party leadership.
“We are in talks with a lot of people from different parts of the country. We want to participate in the general elections from a number of places. TMC will soon become a national party,” Roy said.He also announced that the party would fight from some Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh, where it already has an MLA.
Roy said that Mooshahary, Dubey and Gyanandra would boost the party’s presence in their respective states.
Mooshahary, a native of Assam and a former IPS officer of Kerala cadre, was the DGP of Kerala, NSG and BSF and was the Governor of Meghalaya after retirement from service.
Roy said that Dubey was a seven-time MLA from Bihar and Jharkhand and was also a member of the 14th Lok Sabha and a minister in the Congress government in Jharkhand in 2013.
“With the joining of Dubey and merger of two local parties, an MLA each of which joined the TMC last month and have been made Lok Sabha candidates from Ranchi and Lohardaga, we will go into the elections for Lok Sabha seats from Jharkhand in a big way,” he said.
Roy said that Gyanendra would work as one of the convenors of TMC in Odhisa.
