Kohima/Dimapur, May 30 (EMN):
The Nagaland School Board of Education (NBSE) declared the results of High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) and the Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) examinations 2020 amid the novel coronavurus-induced lockdown, on Saturday.

HSLC

A student of Holy Cross Higher Secondary School, Dimapur, Abhi Chakraborty scored 98.33% with state highest marks in social science and mathematics

His parents said that they expected their son to be on the toppers list, although the topper himself did not expect to make it but was confident of scoring full marks in mathematics, his favourite subject.

Chakraborty admitted he was active on social networking sites but that did not affect his studies. He told this newspaper that the result was declared on his birthday and topping the state exam was the ‘best day’ even though he could not celebrate it because of the lockdown.

Aspiring to be a gastrologist, he said, he did not spend hours on studies and there was no fixed timing, but whatever time he spent with his books was spent in ‘total concentration and proper revision’.

HSSLC Science

Anushka Bhattacharjee

From scoring 3 marks in mathematics in class 9 and securing the top 6 spot in HSLC exam 2018, Anushka Bhattacharjee from Dimapur has now topped this year’s HSSLC exam in science stream.

‘You don’t expect a thing to happen and then it happens to you. I wrote my physics paper badly and I got the state highest mark in physics,’ said Bhattacharjee while speaking to Eastern Mirror over the phone.

She said that her parents and the teachers were her biggest strength and motivation. The 17-year-old student does not have a social media account.

She completed her HSSLC from Pranab Vidyapith Higher Secondary School in Dimapur.

HSSLC Arts

Arts 1
Chumliba R

Nineteen-year-old Chumliba R from Loyola Higher Secondary School, Kiphire scored 92% to be the state topper in Arts stream. He also scored the state highest in political science.

Speaking to Eastern Mirror over the phone, Chumliba said that he aspires to be a civil servant. Both his parents are farmers.

“I did not spent hours and hours for studies, but whatever limited time I spent, I was committed. I am active on social networking site but I did not let that affect my studies,” he said.

The lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic, he said, has affected his search for colleges. “I was in Kohima after my exam but due to the lockdown I had to return to Kiphire. But I hope the pandemic will be over soon and we can all get back to our normal lives, especially the students who are excited to start a new chapter,” Chumliba shared.

HSSLC Commerce topper

COMMERCE 1
Ichha Upadhyay

‘Happy, excited and shocked’ were the first resctions when the state’s HSSLC examination 2020 topper in Commerce stream, Ichha Upadhyay, saw her name on the top list as she only expected her name to be in the pass list.

“Actually I don’t maintain a normal time table for studying. I study whenever I want to,” said the state topper. She also scored the state highest mark in five subjects. The subjects are accountancy, FBM, IP, business studies and economics.

Stating that using social media, in many ways, posed a hindrance in her studies, she said that she deleted all her social media accounts and stopped using it four months before the exam started.

Daughter of a businessman, the 18-year-old Upadhyay is the youngest among three siblings.
