Medical officers trained on Rotavirus vaccine

[caption id="attachment_255589" align="aligncenter" width="565"] Medical Officers and NHM programme managers pose for a photograph during a two-day district-level training on Rotavirus vaccine and routine immunisation at Circuit House, Dimapur.[/caption]   Dimapur, June 19 (EMN): As part of preparedness activities to introduce Rotavirus Vaccine (RVV) in Dimapur district, a two-day district-level training on Rotavirus vaccine and routine immunisation strengthening was held for Medical Officers (MOs), and NHM programme managers of all the blocks at Circuit House, Dimapur, on June 18 and 19. On the first day of the training, participants were oriented on Universal Immunisation Programme (UIP) and its achievements as well as RVV and its impact. The participants were also oriented on the prevention and management on diarrhoeas, dosage, schedule and mode of administration of RVV, cold-chain and vaccine management, AEFI surveillance and management, and communication and social mobilisation. On the second day, the participants were oriented on safe injection and waste disposal and how to strengthen the Routine Immunisation (RI). They were also re-oriented on developing a comprehensive RI micro plan through step-wise approach. During the training, participants were asked to develop a mock RI micro plan based on sample survey provided to them in order to review their learning outcome. The resource persons of the training were DPO UIP-UIP Dr. Rebecca Y Sema, Dr. Narola, Dr. Michelle, Dr. Caroline, and Pilano. State Immunisation Officer, Kohima, Dr. Ritu Thurr; Chief Medical Officer, Dimapur, Dr. K Vikato Kinimi; Deputy CMO Dr. Antoly; and UNICEF consultant Marykali attended the training as observers. The department press release further informed that similar trainings for ANMs and block ASHA co-ordinators under Dimapur district would also be held from June 20 to ensure that all health workers are oriented and prepared to introduce Rotavirus Vaccine in the routine immunisation schedule in the district.
