In a recent announcement, Mediatek revealed it was entering into a strategic partnership with Nvidia to develop cutting-edge in-vehicle AI solutions.

According to a press release, the partnership seeks to harness the respective strengths of both companies in the automotive sector, delivering unmatched solutions for cutting-edge connected cars.

Expressing his enthusiasm about the partnership, CEO of Mediatek, Rick Tsai, said, “Nvidia is a world-renowned pioneer and industry leader in AI and computing. With this partnership, our collaborative vision is to provide a global one-stop shop for the automotive industry, designing the next generation of intelligent, always-connected vehicles.”

Tsai emphasised the significance of the collaboration, noting that the combined efforts of Mediatek and Nvidia will create a unique platform for compute-intensive and software-defined vehicles of the future.

Jensen Huang, the founder and CEO of Nvidia, echoed Tsai’s sentiments, emphasising the transformative power of AI and accelerated computing within the automotive industry.

“The combination of Mediatek’s industry-leading SoC and Nvidia’s GPU and AI software technologies will enable new user experiences, enhanced safety and new connected services for all vehicle segments, from luxury to mainstream,” Huang stated.

Under this partnership, Mediatek will develop automotive SoCs that incorporate a new Nvidia GPU chiplet, alongside Nvidia’s AI and graphics intellectual property. These chiplets will be interconnected using a high-speed and coherent chiplet interconnect technology, facilitating seamless communication between the components.

The collaboration between Mediatek and Nvidia aims to address the growing needs and demands of the automotive industry while capitalising on a significant market opportunity.

According to leading research and advisory company Gartner, the total addressable market for infotainment and instrument cluster SoCs used in vehicles is projected to reach an impressive $12 billion in 2023.

According to Mediatek, the company wants to enhance its ‘Dimensity Auto’ platform by leveraging Nvidia’s expertise in AI, cloud computing, graphics, software, and ADAS solutions. This collaboration promises an intelligent in-vehicle experience, combining Mediatek’s knowledge in mobile computing, connectivity, entertainment, and the Android ecosystem.
