Mokokchung, Oct. 26 (EMN): SSS Yellow may have failed to reach the MDFA Trophy final but they earned their best MDFA finish on Friday by beating Telongjem F/C 1-0 in the third-place match in Imkongmeren Sports Complex. Alemsusang scored the lone goal for the SSS Yellow to clinch the third place title.
Both teams went into the half-time without conceding any goal. The second half started without any difference in the number of goal. However SSS Yellow forwards had some good chances to beat the Telongjem Goal Keeper, but just missed the target and bounced off the field.
SSS Yellow finally made the breakthrough in the 58th minute when Alemsusang went for a header inside the box for 1-0. Telongjem tired to level the score till the last minute but were unsuccessful. The third place winner walked away with a cash prize of INR 40000 and the fourth place holder received a cash prize of INR 20000.
Earlier, an exhibition match was played between Mokokchung DC & SP XI and Mokokchung Press Club. The match ended in 3-2 in favour of Mokokchung DC & SP XI.
Habemo scored two goals and Yarlemba one goal for Mokokchung DC & SP XI while a goal each was scored by Sanen Imsong and Sanen Jamir for Mokokchung Press Club.
The MDFA Trophy 2018 third-place match was graced by Kelhouneizo Yhome, President NDPP Youth Organization as the match patron. The final match of the MDFA Trophy 2018 will be graced by Tongpang Ozukum, Minister of PWD as the chief match patron on Saturday.
