MDFA Trophy: Dilong Youth beat Socianian to enter semis

Mokokchung, October 17: Dilong Youth Association (DYA) beat Socianian FC 2-1 to book a place in the semi-final of the ongoing MDFA Trophy 2016 at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung on Monday.
With huge support from the crowd, DYA players gave it everything to enter the semis; however, Socianian FC gave a tough fight till the very end. DYA defence was far better today compared to their previous matches. DYA’s strong defence and a seasoned Dilong goalkeeper Yanger ensured that no serious attempts on goal were made.
In the first half of the match, DYA midfield breached the Socianian defence, and Imsuwapang gave a fine cross towards the goal; DYA striker, Inshalu found the ball and slotted into the net in the 3rd minute.
Socianian FC also got a chance to equalise the goal when a free-kick was awarded in the next few minutes; a powerful shot by the Socianian player flew over dangerously, but it got deflected off the goal post.The second half also saw some interesting play when a foul was committed by a Socianian defender just outside the box but was saved by the Socianian goalkeeper.
When all hope seemed lost for the Socianians, a corner kick was awarded. The Socianian took the kick in all earnest and there was a brief confusion at the DYA goalposts, Socianian midfielder Lipoktoshi seized the opportunity and scored a goal in the 69th minute.
It was not only an equaliser but a morale booster for the SFC team. But at the 78th minute, another foul was committed by Socianian just outside the box.
Bendangsunep (DYA) took the opportunity and the ball went past the Socianian wall, and a helpless goalkeeper could not save it.
With two goals to one, and with the clock quickly running down, a penalty-kick was awarded to DYA after the striker was pushed by a Socianian player. DYA striker Inshalu missed the penalty. The match ended 2-1 with DYA booking a berth in the semis and ensuring a date with Sports Society Suyim on October 20 for the first semi-final match.
