NU Lumami (orange jersey) and Moanungsang MSC players in action during the first quarter final match at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung, on Saturday.

MOKOKCHUNG — Nagaland University, Lumami campus, bowed out of the MDFA 2023, after losing to home ground team Moanungsang MSC 4-2, while defending champions Telongjem FC humiliated Brotherhood FC 6-0, in the quarter-finals played at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, on Saturday.

NU Lumami, after missing a couple of seasons, entered this tournament with high expectations and gave stiff competition to their rivals in the league round.

NU Lumami scored their first goal in the 15th minute through the boots of Neilei Nagi, but Moanungsang MSC responded quickly with an equaliser from Inovi Chishu, four minutes later.

Both teams had their fair chances to add to the scoresheet in the first half, and Moanungsang MSC striker Meyasenba did that by sliding in a goal in the 42nd minute.

In the second half, NU Lumami went on the offensive as Chingjun Y Konyak leveled the score 2-2 in the 47th minute.

However, the tide turned in favour of Moanungsang as they were awarded a penalty in the 65th minute, which fleet-footed Rongsenchiba converted it into a goal.

Rongsenchiba went on to score a brace in the 82nd minute.

In the second quarter final match of the day, Brotherhood FC suffered a humiliating 0-6 defeat to defending champions Telongjen FC.

Telongjem wrapped up the match with Nyithong Magh scoring a hat trick and his team mates H Robinson Khongsai contributing a brace and Shuruosul Zhotso with another goal in the first half.

Telongjem started the match with a strong attacking lineup and they got off to a fantastic start with H Robinson Khongsai heading home in the 10th minute of the game.  Eight minutes later, Nyithong Magh, flexed his foot in the 18th and 21st minutes, bringing the scoreline to 3-0.
