MDDF organises awareness programme on PwDs

DIMAPUR — Mokokchung District Disabled Forum (MDDF) has organised an awareness programme on person with disabilities (PwDs) at Senden Salang, in Kobulong, Mokokchung, on June 15. The event was supported by office of the State Commissioner for Person with Disabilities.

An update from MDDF stated that the programme was chaired by Sungjemrenba, assistant youth pastor of Mopungchuket Baptist Church, and the invocation prayer was said by O Alang, pastor of Kobulong Baptist Church.

It stated that Arenlila Jamir, project associate of community-based rehabilitation (CBR) under Caritas India, delivered the welcome address, while Seyievilie Pfukri, EAC of Kobulong, and Imliyanger, CDPO of Kobulong, delivered short speeches. They have encouraged the stakeholders and the members present to be more sincere on issues related to person with disabilities. They have also encouraged the members to protect and promote the welfare of persons with disabilities and their rights.

Resource persons namely Kezhaleto Zecho, senior executive of NSDF, and Ngaugongbe, joint secretary of NSDF, shared about the Rights of Person with Disabilities Act 2016 and also stressed on health and educational entitlements and rights of persons with disabilities.

Meanwhile, MDDF president, Imkongnungchet Kichu, shared on the status of PwDs and functions of disable people’s organisation (DPO’s) and encouraged the village councils, churches and the people in the community to extend supports and help towards the welfare of PwDs.

The programme was attended by church leaders, Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers, village council members, school teachers, PwDs and their parents. It added that a total of 98 people including 18 persons with disabilities attended the programme.
