MCTE hosts workshop on soft skills to enhance leadership

DIMAPUR — A one-day workshop on soft skills was organised at the Mokokchung College of Teacher Education (MCTE) Yimyu, Mokokchung, on September 20.

According to an update, the workshop, aimed at enhancing leadership and professionalism through soft skills development, was held in collaboration with Emporium Skill Training Institute, Nagaland.

The workshop commenced with an introductory note by Dr. T Alemla Longkumer, principal of MCTE, who called attention to the importance of soft skills in both our professional and personal interactions with others.

She stressed that developing competent educators and giving them the resources they need to have a positive impact on their students and colleagues are made possible by soft skills.

The principal extended gratitude and appreciation to the three professionals from the Emporium team – Temjenkala Aier, CEO of Emporium Nagaland; Ayani Kikon, soft skills trainer, and Allin Awomi, operations manager-cum- aviation trainer – for taking pains to conduct the workshop.

Ayani Kikon led the first session, focusing on strategies for building high-performing teams in the workplace. She introduced the concept of ‘Creating a dream team for a sport,’ emphasising collaboration, appreciation, and teamwork. The session was interactive in nature and featured collaborative development exercises and teamwork games.

Kikon also dwelled on ‘Professionalism and workplace conduct,’ wherein she underscored the importance of clear agendas, maintaining interpersonal etiquette, respecting cellophane usage, and giving and receiving constructive criticism.

She further stressed the role of professionalism in building trust and maintaining confidentiality. The session was enhanced with an audio-visual presentation showcasing basic manners and interpersonal etiquette in professional settings.

Temjenkala Aier discussed her journey towards leadership, emphasising the importance of emotional intelligence (EI) and social skills.

She stressed on the need for understanding one’s inner self, honesty, and emotional well-being. Citing Daniel Goleman’s work as a breakthrough for leadership roles, Aier encouraged future educators to set clear visions, practice humility and inclusivity, and commit to lifelong learning.

Allin Awomi led the ‘Grooming session’ where she presented professional grooming in both theoretical and practical methods.

She highlighted on body language, politeness and personal hygiene, and the participants experienced expert techniques through a hands-on session.

The workshop received positive feedback from faculty and student-teachers. Dr. Honngam Konyak, assistant professor, MCTE, delivered the vote of thanks, acknowledging the valuable contributions of the resource persons and the participants.

“In conclusion, the workshop provided an enriching experience, equipping educators with essential soft skills for effective leadership and professional growth,” it stated.
