MCMC constituted for 43 Tapi bye-election

DIMAPUR — In view of the upcoming bye-election to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly for the 43 Tapi  (ST) Assembly Constituency and in compliance with the Election Commission of India's (ECI) instructions, a state-level media certification and monitoring committee (MCMC) has been constituted.

According to a DIPR report, the committee will be chaired by Vyasan R, Chief Electoral Officer of Nagaland, and will also include one observer appointed by the ECI as a member.

Other members of the committee are Dzüvinuo Theünuo, director, Directorate of Information and Public Relations; K Sonikumar Singh, assistant director, PIB Kohima; a member to be nominated by the Press Council of India; Alila Chang, Deputy Chief Electoral Officer and Media Nodal Officer, CEO's office, who will serve as member secretary; and Sabou Yashu, director, Directorate of Information Technology and Communication.

The MCMC will perform two sets of functions: deciding appeals from both the district and certification committees in the CEO's office of advertisement and examining all paid news cases on appeal against the decision of the district MCMC or cases taken up suomotu, in which case it shall direct the concerned ROs to issue notices to the candidates.
