DIMAPUR — Drawing attention to the AKM notification directing business establishments in Mokokchung to remain close on Sunday, the Mokokchung Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) has requested the former to withhold the same in the larger interest of Mokokchung.
Stating that MCCI does not endorse keeping the market open on Sundays, it however, said that there are certain economic activities and practical realities that need due cognizance, as well as certain essential and emergency services that need to remain open even on Sundays which do not in any way contravene “the law and practices of the land.”
While expressing regret over the statement made by AKM without consulting the appropriate body, MCCI urged upon all concerned to take the ground reality into consideration by consulting the stakeholders in a democratic manner before issuing notification on matters that are beyond the purview of one’s authority.
“Mokokchung is the most peaceful market in Nagaland today and we do not appreciate any entity causing chaos in the market. If there are any individuals or groups with any grievance in the market or if there are any issues in the market in Mokokchung that is of concern to any organisation or entity, it is advised that the MCCI be taken into confidence,” the statement read.
It stated that MCCI is always ready and willing to address any public grievances in the market that is brought to its attention, if it is within their ambit. As such, MCCI has asked all the concerned to approach its office on any day of the week for consultation and necessary action.
In order to ‘maintain the sanctity and to safeguard the sentiments of the people irrespective of faith’ in the market, MCCI stated that it always denounced vigilantism in Mokokchung and remain committed to it.
