MOKOKCHUNG — Ao Senden president Chubawati Longchar said on Saturday that the Ao tribe has become an empty hive without bees, implying that Aos are losing influence in various fields in contrast to their past legacy.

Longchar was speaking at the general conference of Mokokchung Circle Ao Officers Telongjem (MCAOT), which was held at Fazl Ali College (FAC) conference hall.

Therefore, he urged senior officers to steer the young officers in the right direction so that they could serve as a beacon of hope for a vibrant society.

Longchar also mentioned in his speech that FAC is the oldest college in Nagaland and urged the officers to give importance to the college, either financially or in kind and knowledge, citing that having a reputable institution determines the people of the district, and the young minds produced from the college will be an asset to society.

Temsu Wathi Ao, senior technical director at NIC Mokokchung, who chaired the conference, said that MCAOT was formed on October 16, 2012, and it was its third general conference. He also mentioned that Saturday’s conference was critical because the association had redrafted its constitution and appointed a new team of office bearers and executives.

He informed that the house had discussed the Ao Officers Conclave to be held in November in Mokokchung, in which Kohima Ao Officers Telongjem and Dimapur Ao Officers Telongjem are set to participate, as well as the agenda for the Ao Literature Society.

During the conference, the house decided to change its nomenclature from MCAOT to Mokokchung Ao Officers Telongjem (MAOT).

The new MAOT office team will be led by I Lipokonen Jamir, deputy director of SARS Yisemyong, as president, and Dr. Sentitula, DFO Mokokchung, as general secretary. MOAT currently has more than 200 members, according to officials.
