Mayangnokcha school wins inter-school football tournament

Mokokchung, Sep. 7 (EMN): Mayangnokcha Government Higher Secondary School (MGHSS) are the champion of MDFA Inter-School Football Tournament 2018 for the second time after defeating 2 NAP Higher Secondary School 2-0 in the final at Imkongmeren Sports Complex in Mokokchung on Fri. Sep. 7.

MGHSS notched the victory with the help of Imnatoshi R Jamir registering two goals in the first half and second half.

Leading from the front, Imnatoshi struck the first goal in the 28th minute to give his school the early advantage with a perfect header. Despite the setback 2 NAP boys fought on and had a couple of shots on target, but without success. Unfortunately for them, all their attempts were denied by MGHSS defence line.

Midway through the second session, MGHSS’s energetic striker Imnatoshi again saw a perfect opportunity when a mid-fielder assisted a pass across the 2 NAP’s defence line in the 64th minute. He swiftly by-passed the defenders and scored his second goal with a clinical strike.

Despite relentless attempts, 2 NAP boys were totally denied even for the consolation goal by MGHSS boys.

Meanwhile, the closing ceremony was attended by Col. Vijay Ahlawai, Commanding Officer of 25 Nagaland (I) Coy NCC, Mokokchung as the chief match patron. This year the champion MGHSS walked home with a cash prize of INR 20000 with trophy and certificates and the runners-up 2 NAP Higher Secondary School received a cash prize of INR 10000 and certificates.

Individual prizes:  Highest scorer: Moakum from Children School, best defender: Lipoktoshi from 2 NAP Hr. Sec. School, best goalkeeper: Temjenyuba from Children School, Best player: Imnatoshi R Jamir from MGHSS. The tournament was organised by MDFA under the aegis of DEO Mokokchung and co-sponsored by NYKS.
