DIMAPUR, MAY 14
A public funeral for 29-year-old Ento Nyekha, allegedly killed by Assam police on Tuesday last at the disputed border belt near Murise village across Dhansiri river, was held today outside the Western Chakhesang Hoho Building, in Dimapur. After the memorial service, the coffin was carried off to Naga Cemetery for burial.
The service was attended by members of Diezephe village, from which the deceased hailed, along with other mourners from their community. The Nagaland Tribes Council and Naga Council Dimapur also send their representatives to the funeral.
Speakers at the funeral include representatives of NTC, NCD, Western Chakhesang Hoho, Western Chakhesang Mothers’ Association among others. Apart from the messages of condolence, the recurrent theme from the speakers was the call to the State government to revoke the “1972 Interim Agreement” on border issue with Assam.
They shared that the Interim arrangement has forced the Nagas to relinquish their rights to Assam.
The funeral rites were conducted by the Reverend TN Lotha while the ceremony was led by the pastor of Diezephe AGC, Poseruh Lohe.
