Do not let any unwholesome talk come out from your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listens. Ephesians 4:29 Everyone talks, even babies mumbles and the difference between them is that the matured understands what they say but the infants don’t. Conversation is also a gift in itself but the gift is often misused or abused. The Alphabets and lessons learned from school should not be used in the negative and it is a matter of concern for those who are still infants in it. There are also times when useless words are uttered and when harmful words are uttered the harm is more. The truth concerning many is that, at times in humor they talk rubbish, utter rubbish and worst of all it does not build others up. It is true that some are talkative, while others are silent, and as far as this reality is concerned, even the righteous and the wicked talk. But the edge the righteous have over the wicked is that, the former utters worthy things, while the other utters what is perverse. Even as the scripture says there are some sins which does not lead to death, I believe the same is true even with words. Some comedians thinks they are so funny that they entertain crowds by uttering obscene jokes, having less or without any regard of God. The guilty ones refereed to here can be any one we see and it will be better for them to grow up.Strangely there are some kids who tries to act mature, while the acts of some elders are embarrassingly immatured. This has to change, God’s people has to take heed. The words which comes out from our mouth must brighten the listener’s faith, not darken their hearts. It is that when we speak to build, we build and when we speak to destroy we destroy. The book of wisdom thus states “ The lips of the wise spread knowledge; not so the hearts of fools.” ( Proverbs 15:7 ) It is what we see which grieves our hearts, for the acts of many are like that. The words of some hurts others, while some wounds, the words of some poisons others still. The uttered words must be uttered in dignity, not in the way a fool does. Remember this, when a person jokes too much people begin to have less respect for them. The kings acted like kings, the prophets like prophets and the apostles like apostles. Sadly Judas did not become an apostle, Herod did not praise God and his end was tragic. The ones who speaks must not speak in folly but in wisdom. The scripture says “ The eyes of the Lord are everywhere, keeping watch on the wicked and the good. The tongue that brings healing is a tree of life, but a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit. ( Proverbs 15:3,4 ) The first verse speaks of judgment and the second speaks of honor and folly. As the eyes has seen this every listener must give careful attention to the teachings of the word. The truth is, words can be deceptive, the heart is deceitful but if I have the heart of Christ in me rivers of living water will flow out through me giving life to many, linking the hearts of everyone to God. May the wisdom of God guide you even in your speech as you strive to live your best for God’s glory. The followers of the Word must follow the order of the Word. God is the owner of everything, even words. The words we speak must build, not destroy. Ambrose.J.Chakre
