Imphal, Oct. 24 (EMN): Incessant rain in the past few days has triggered massive landslides in Manipur’s Senapati district, cutting off the Imphal-Mao sector of National Highway 2, the main supply route for Manipur.
The landslide took place at Khongnem Thana area, about 70 km north of Imphal under Senapati police station on Friday evening, according to reports available here.
In view of the development, many Imphal-bound goods trucks were stranded along the highway while smaller passenger vehicles have to take the road to Imphal via Ukhrul, the reports added.
However, there were no reports of casualties and the district administration is monitoring the situation.
On the other hand, most of the major rivers in Manipur valley were flowing close to ‘warning level’ since Friday evening due to incessant rain in various parts of the state.
According to residents of the valley, the Imphal River, which passes through the state capital, is also flowing at an alarming level while the water level of other major rivers such as Iril and Nambul are also rising.
The Manipur government has also alerted all the district administration in the state in this regard.
