Massive fire razes over 100 shops in Kohima
The incoming and ongoing vehicles along the High School Junction and IG Road in Kohima has been closed for the time being following the unfortunate fire incident
KOHIMA — In an unfortunate incident, a major fire broke out at High School Junction in Kohima in the early hours of Saturday, razing three markets housing dozens of shops and affecting the adjoining commercial buildings.
The fire reportedly broke out around 2:30 am and is suspected to be caused by a short circuit, as per sources.
Two main markets, AV Market and Paraciezie Market, and another shop were burnt down completely, while two more commercial buildings — Vishal Mega Mart and North Hill Arcade — were partially damaged.
The two main market houses more 100 shops, while four families including a caretaker live in the AV Market.
However, no casualties have been reported from the incident, according to the fire officials.
A total of eight fire tenders from various fire stations across Kohima district including Chiephobozou, North and South were pressed into action to douse the fire, the official said.
A call was received at 3:06 am on Saturday regarding the fire incident, official added.
The traffic along the High School Junction and IG Road has been closed for the time being.
It may be mentioned that fires have razed a few markets in Kohima, including the Mao Market building and NN Market within a span of seven months.
