Mass social work planned across Nagaland for World Environment Day

DIMAPUR — In observance of World Environment Day, a series of mass social work events have been scheduled across the state.

Kohima: Deputy Commissioner of Kohima, Kumar Ramnikant, informed in a circular that, in pursuance of the decision taken by the Kohima District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), and as part of the monsoon preparedness exercise, a mass social work exercise will be conducted in Kohima town.

It will be held on June 6 from 6 am onwards to clean and clear all clogged drains, according to a DIPR report. It will involve all district offices in Kohima, along with the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC).

All participants are to bring the necessary tools and items for the work as per the requirements. The offices and departments marked for the arrangement of vehicles and machinery for garbage pickup and disposal will assess the required machinery and arrange accordingly.

The concerned team leaders are to ensure that garbage collected is properly disposed- of at the KMC dumping site and all concerned offices and departments have been requested to cooperate and participate in the exercise.

Rhosietho Nguori, ADC Kohima, will be the overall in-charge for the event and can be contacted through the phone number 9612581203.

Dimapur: In a notification, the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) has informed all colonies, institutions, religious places, and business establishments under its jurisdiction that, in accordance with the directive of the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban Nagaland, they are to conduct a cleanliness drive at their respective colonies/locations.

The drive would be held on June 5 from 6 am to 8 am, and everyone has been requested to participate in the cleanliness drive.

Pungro: The additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of Pungro, Kiphire, has announced that there will be mass social work in Pungro town on June 5, starting at 6 am.

This event aims to commemorate World Environment Day, with a particular emphasis on plastic waste management, specifically targeting single-use plastic (SUP).

According to a DIPR report, all ward GBs and chairpersons have been asked to supervise their respective wards and ensure the participation of all residents. The Chamber of Commerce, Pungro, will supervise the market areas.

Further, heads of offices and institutions at Pungro HQ have been informed to mobilise their staff and conduct social work at their respective premises on the mentioned date.

Extra Assistant Commissioner Pungro, Yithachu Thur, will be in-charge of the event.

Tening: ADC Tening, T Lemlila Sangtam, in a similar notification, informed all citizens of Tening town that a mass social work will be conducted in commemoration of World Environment Day, starting at 6 am in Tening town, Peren.

All heads of offices and educational institutions, ward authorities, GBs, the chairman of WATSAN (water and sanitation), members of the Tening Traders Union, leaders of religious organisations, and women as well as youth organisations under Tening town have been requested to participate.

Furthermore, Swachhata captains of each ward have been requested to ensure that the plastic collected in the plastic collection bins of their respective wards is segregated into recyclable plastic (PET) bottles and plastic containers, as well as non-recyclable plastic/SUPs/MLPs (straws, food packages, chip packets, sweets and tobacco packets, disposable cutlery, and disposable carry bags, etc.).

They have been instructed to submit the segregated plastic to the sanitation team when they come to collect it from their wards.

The ADC also announced that there will be an award for the ‘cleanest ward’ selected from amongst the nine wards on the day of the social work. EAC Tening, Imliwabang Aier, will be in charge of monitoring the overall conduct of the mass social work.

Nuiland: In observance of World Environment Day and as part of monsoon preparedness, it has been announced that there will be a mass social work on June 5 throughout Niuland District, starting from 5 am onwards.

According to the report, all offices, schools, institutions, villages, and colonies under Niuland district have been requested to clean their surroundings and roads. Additionally, all landowners adjacent to district roads have been informed to clear the jungle on both sides of the road.

The area administrative officers, heads of departments, offices, schools, village and town GBs, and village council chairmen have been requested to supervise the social work within their respective jurisdictions.
