Mass prayer on creation of autonomous state held
Our Correspondent
Diphu, Aug. 13 (EMN): A mass prayer for the immediate creation of an autonomous state was organised jointly by the Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC), KSA and Karbi Nimso Chingthur Asong (KNCA) at Diphu Club in Diphu on Aug. 12.
Various religious leaders of Karbi Honghari, Christian, Sikh, Radha Krishna, Bhaktitom Trust and Islam offered prayers in their religious ways.
The president, ASDC, Chandra Kanta Terang said the mass prayer was organised for peace and immediate granting of an Autonomous State. He said the ASDC is for secularism and no one can divide the people of hill districts in the name of religion.
Terang said, the Indian Parliament in its 22nd amendment of the constitution in 1969 had made a provision that if the people of the hill districts of Assam desire an Autonomous State a resolution in Parliament can be passed just by a voice vote.
The ASDC, KSA and KNCA will not stop and will continue with the demand for an Autonomous State until it is achieved, Terang said.
He also informed that on August 22 a sit-in demonstration will be organised in Diphu.
