Marsosang Football Trophy: Wins for Arju, Rocky Club

Dr. Sentitula declaring the 13th edition of Marsosang Football trophy opened at Langpangkong Tsükong GHS Chuchuyimlang, PlayGround on Tuesday.

CHUCHUYIMLANG — Arju Club beat Wingers 2-1, while Rocky Club trounced Youngsters FC 14-2, in the opening matches of the 13th edition of Marsosang Football Trophy, organised by Rocky Club, Chuchuyimlang, at Langpangkong Tsükong GHS, Chuchuyimlang, on Tuesday.

Twelve teams including Akoju Club, Wingers Club, Youngsters FC, Visions, Telongjem FC, Rocky Club, United Boys, Endzone Elite, N Obang Memorial Football Team (MFT), Team Gilgal, Ungerlong FC and Marsosang SC, will be vying for the coveted trophy.

N Obang MFT are the defending champions.

Divisional Forest Officer, Mokokchung, Dr. Sentitula, the chief guest of the opening ceremony, in her address, said that Marsosang was a distinguished businessman, an entrepreneur and a man with “smart” personality, who emphasised the importance of “hardwork.”

Dr. Sentitula challenged gathering from all walks of life to embody Marsosang’s work ethic and adopt a ‘SMART’ approach – specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time-bound – in their endeavours.

She also encouraged the players to reflect on possessing this “Smart” personality in any aspect of their lives, utilizing their God-given talents while playing with discipline and maximizing their potential. Chief Guest urged the participants to strive for excellence.

L Yanger, executive member of Mokokchung District Football Association (MDFA) highlighted the significance of the Marsosang Football Trophy, a biennial event contributing to MDFA’s commitment to nurturing football talent in Mokokchung district.

Talitemsu, convenor of the MFT organising committee, extended gratitude to the family of late Marsosang for sponsoring the event.

Born in 1901, Marsosang was a first-class contractor, businessman and founding member of Mokokchung town.

The champions will receive cash prize of INR 1.5 lakh and the runner-up INR 80,000, along with a trophies and certificates.

There are also individual prizes for best defender, best goalkeeper, player of the tournament, highest goal scorer, best team and recognition for two semi-finalists.
