Mariah Carey, Kim Cattrall and Debbie Harry have donated their fur coats to PETA.
The ‘All I Want For Christmas’ singer, ‘Sex and the City’ star and the Blondie frontwoman have offered up their animal-skin outerwear to the charity who in turn will donate them to department store Liberty London’s annual coat drive for the homeless.
The store – which collects the coats for the Wrap Up London appeal and donated more than 15,000 garments to the cause last year – has a long-standing policy against selling fur in the store but has waved the ban to receive the donations.
Mimi Bekhechi, the director of PETA, told Vogue.co.uk: “Thanks to dozens of donors who dumped their furs in favour of kindness, PETA is able to send a vital message about having compassion for animals this winter – and that only people desperately lacking basic necessities have any excuse to wear fur.
“We’re calling on kind people to keep the homeless in their hearts this Christmas and to show compassion for animals at the same time by donating any real fur items to those in need.”
The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals charity also carried out a similar drive in Detroit, Michigan, last year, donating 100 fur coats to help the city’s homeless through the winter months.
