Dimapur, Oct. 28 (EMN): Member of Legislative Assembly from 2 Dimapur II Assembly Constituency, Moatoshi Longkumer, on October 27 distributed piglets and poultry chicks to marginalised families under the constituency. Some 320 marginalised families were benefited under the NITI Aayog’s grant-in-aid and special financial assistance programme to MLAs.
At a distribution programme organised at his residence today, Longkumer informed that INR 30 lakh was sanctioned to each MLA to be utilised in aiding the rural economy. “The aim is to use the financial aid to help enhance the earnings of marginalised families. It is for all irrespective of party affiliations. Today is a start and it will continue,” said the NPF MLA.

He said that the assistance will be given away phase-wise in the coming few days adding that beneficiaries were identified in coordination with the village councils of 11 recognised villages under the constituency. “It is a small means to uplift the local economy by supporting the poorest of the poor,” he said.

While it was not gender specific, he said that women were given precedence for availing the benefit. Stating that his focus has been to promoting women, especially the marginalised through Self Help Groups, he said, “My objective is to help change the economic condition by helping the local economy.”

It was informed that the beneficiaries were given the option of receiving either two piglets or 50 chicks along with feeds. The feeds were procured through the department of veterinary and animal husbandry.

Dr. Syed Hussain, a private veterinary consultant from Jorhat, was on hand to take queries on piggery and poultry from the beneficiaries.
