Manish Kumar takes charge as IGAR
KOHIMA — Major General Manish Kumar on Friday took over the charge of Inspector General of Assam Rifles (North) in Kohima. He succeeded Major General Vikas Lakhera, AVSM, SM.
Speaking at the handing over ceremony, the outgoing IGAR, Major General Vikas Lakhera, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and acknowledged the symbolic importance of the transition. He also emphasised on the need to provide support and assistance to each other.
Lakhera expressed confidence in the capabilities of incoming IGAR, emphasising their qualifications and suitability for the role.
Lakhera also highlighted the initiatives undertaken to bridge the gap between Assam Rifles and the people to foster trust and closer relationships through various programmes.
Meanwhile, Kumar has appreciated the contributions made by the outgoing IGAR. He also underscored the importance of fostering connections with the local community and assured to uphold the responsibilities entrusted to him.
Kumar was commissioned into the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles in December 1992.
He commanded an infantry battalion in Rajasthan and Assam and subsequently into Assam Rifles Sector in Nagaland.
He is a post graduate from Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, and also attended the Higher Command Course in Army War College Mhow.
The officer has operational experience having served extensively in Jammu and Kashmir and the Northeast.
He has been awarded with two Sena Medals, one Chief of Army Staff Commendation and four GOC-in-C Commendation Cards for his distinguished service to the nation.
