Ukhrul, April 29 (EMN): The five-day long Shirui Lily Festival of 2018 culminated on Sat. April 28 at the TNL ground in Ukhrul in Manipur. The closing function was marked by dance performances including from a troupe from Nagaland.
Speaking as the chief guest of the closing ceremony, Minister Thogam Biswajit Singh urged the people of Manipur to take collective responsibly of preserving and protecting the state's natural resources. He said, “Celebration of Shirui Lily festival has brought together. Through festival let us bridge the gap of mistrust and misunderstanding within us.”
Singh emphasized on the importance of exploring natural resources in the state. He urged the Central statistical authorities besides the villages of Ukhrul to support the government in the process. Ukhrul is rich in chromites and limestone, he said adding that “Judicious utilization will develop the state and will create employment opportunities for the youths.”
The president of the valedictory function Dr. Sapam Ranjan Singh urged the visitors to spread the message of the Shirui lily festival to promote tourism in the region. He said, “Ukhrul and its surrounding area (have) tourism potential, natural beauty, landscape...”
