Manipur’s ‘Kokyet’ part of new uniform in Parliament
IMPHAL — In what could be termed as a pride for Manipur, Kokyet, a headgear or turban for Meitei community which has high cultural and traditional values will be a part of uniform in the Parliament house of India.
While secretariat staff will sport Nehru jackets of magenta or deep pink shade, security officers will wear camouflage uniform, according to the sources.
Marshals of both houses of the Parliament — the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha — will appear in new uniforms, including Manipuri turbans. Security personnel will be seen in camouflage shades, instead of the current safari suits.
Instead of safari suits, they will be given uniforms similar to that of the military. Women officers have been assigned bright-coloured sarees with jackets to be worn during winter. Both the upper and lower houses of the Parliament will have the same uniforms for staff.
The new dress code is said to have been designed by experts at the National Institute of Fashion Technology after wide consultation with experts.
