Imphal, Oct. 2 (EMN): Manipur’s Jiribam has won the ‘Clean City’ award under Swachh Survekshan 2022 in the category of cities in North East India which have a population of less than 15,000 people.
This is the third consecutive time Jiribam under Jiribam district has been declared the cleanest small city in North East India.
Director of Municipal Administration & Urban Development, Robert Singh Kshetrimayum and Jiribam Municipal Council (JMC) executive officer, M Surjit, along with and two other officials of JMC received the award.
On Jiribam town’s continuous achievement in annual cleanliness survey, Surjit said, “We managed to get the recognition because of the continuous support and participation by the community along with the tireless effort and encouragement of the sanitary workers.”
“Apart from giving periodical recognition to sanitary workers by presenting certificates, the contribution made by the 10 self help groups from across 10 municipal wards (in Jiribam) also helps a lot in making the town clean,” he added.
On the other hand, Lamlai town in Imphal East district bagged the ‘Fast moving city’ while Assam’s Lala and Lakhipur C secured awards for ‘Citizens feedback’ and self-sustainable city. Arunachal Pradesh’s Tawang town was awarded for 'Innovation & Best practice’ in the category of cities which have a population of less than 15,000 people.
After Manipur, Mizoram and Sikkim come in the top three overall progress states in Northeast.
Swachh Survekshan 2022 is an annual cleanliness survey conducted by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India.
The awards which include a memento and certificates were distributed to the winners at an event held at New Delhi on October 1.
Mention may be made that Kakching Municipal Council won ‘Cleanest City’ award in 2018, third ‘Cleanest City’ in 2019 and ‘Best City in Citizens' Feedback in 2020.
