Manipur’s cabinet in a flurry for budget session

Imphal, Jan. 25 (EMN): The budget session of the Manipur Legislative Assembly will commence on Feb. 2. The session will continue till Feb. 23. It will have 15 sessions, according to a provisional almanac issued by the assembly’s Secretary M Ramani Devi.
The session will be opened with the customary Governor’s Address. The supplementary demands for grants for 2018-19 will be tabled on Feb. 5. The state’s cabinet has approved the draft of the Governor’s Address to be delivered on the first day of the session.
The approval was given after affecting amendments during a cabinet meeting presided over by Chief Minister N Biren Singh in Imphal on Wed., official sources said.
Also, the cabinet has decided to hike remunerations of Home Guard personnel from INR 5000 to INR 7,730 per month. The cabinet has approved the proposal for amendment to schedule-I of the MCS Rules of 1965 too. According to the amendment, the number of MCS grade-I posts, among others, would be increased from 57 to 73. There are currently 161 MCS grade-II posts, 57 MCS grade-I posts and 12 MCS selection-grade posts and an MCS super time scale post.
The state has given its nod similarly to the proposal for contractual engagement to different categories of posts in residential hostels to be opened at Thoubal, Kakching, Chandel, Tengnoupal, and Jiribam and two more in Bishnupur district.
