Manipur’s Bushan Haoban accorded grand reception

Imphal, April 24 (EMN): Manipur’s budding tennis player, Bushan Haobam, who is a member of the Indian tennis squad, which recently won the Davis Cup Junior Asia – Oceania Zone, 2022 in New Delhi, was accorded a grand reception on his arrival in Imphal on Saturday.

Govindas Konthoujam, the minister for Youth Affairs and Sports (YAS), Khumukcham Joykishan, MLA of Thangmeiband constituency, T Phullen Meitei, Director YAS and others were present during the reception ceremony, organised by the Imphal District Tennis Association in its complex at Lamphelpat.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister Govindas praised the achievements of Bushan Haoban at the international circuit at such a tender age and promised to reward him with a cash incentive of INR five lakh from the department of YAS.

In his presidential address, MLA Joykisan also appreciated the indomitable spirit of Bushan in achieving excellence in the international tennis arena, which no Manipuri had achieved so far, while recalling his earlier involvement in promoting sports in Manipur particularly soccer.

An ecstatic and overjoyed Bushan also narrated about his struggle, hard work and maiden international success during the reception function. Yambem Leelenje, who groomed Bushan in his initial years as coach also pointed out the unique talent and great potential the local lad has in store.

Earlier, on his arrival at Imphal Airport, Bushan, who was selected as a member of Indian Junior Team for the Asia Oceania Qualifying Zone Junior Davis Cup 2022 and Junior Billie Jean King Cup by BNP Paribas Competition, was given a rousing welcome with garlands by his family members, fans and hundreds of local tennis players.

With the recent success, Bushan and his Indian teammates have qualified for the World Group Junior Davis Cup under-16 boys’ tennis tournament.
