Imphal, June 13 (EMN):
Manipur’s Minister of Agriculture, Oinam Lukhoi Singh handed over district wise allocation of free certified high yielding variety (HYV) paddy seeds to district agriculture officers (DAO) during an event at Agriculture Godown at Lamphelpat in Imphal on Sunday.

To ease the hardship faced by the farmers in the state during this Covid-19 pandemic,  Lukhoi expressed that the government of Manipur under the supervision of Chief Minister N Biren Singh had decided for distribution of paddy seeds at free of cost instead of selling at 50 percent subsidy.

He stated that the programme was focused to reach the farmers in their interest and welfare. He informed that farmers could procure these free certified HVY paddy seeds through the concerned DAOs and enhance their production.

Mentioning that there is deficit in food grains in the state with the increase in population, especially rice, he informed that a sub-committee was constituted for enhancement of rice production on Sept. 7, 2020.

The minister also interacted with the DAOs to take stock of the prevailing ground situation of the department in the districts and encouraged them to work in the interest and welfare of the farmers in the state. Later, the minister along with the commissioner of Agriculture, M Joy Singh, director of Agriculture, Kh Lalamani Singh and other officials of the department inspected the fertilisers grown in the state.
