Manipuri Language Day observed in Manipur

Imphal, August 20 (EMN): To commemorate inclusion of Manipuri language in the 8th Schedule in the Indian Constitution, the ‘26th Manipuri Language Day’ was observed under the aegis of 26th Manipuri Language Day State Level Celebration Committee, comprising of 14 organisations here on Sunday.
Speaking in the occasion, Information & Public Relations Minister Biswajit informed that he will take up the matter relating to the inclusion of Manipuri script in currency note and upgradation of the language into classical language in consultation with the chief minister. Expressing the need to have a collective effort for promotion of Manipuri language which is the lingua franca, he said if necessary cabinet will take a decision.
According to reports, it stated that the Manipuri language was included in the 8th Schedule in the Indian Constitution on August 20, 1992.
Minister Thongam Biswajit, Education Minister Th Radheshyam and Revenue Minister Karam Shyam besides others prominent personalities attended programme.
